How does Ziera’s production affect the environment? Do you recycle?
You bet your boots we do! At the Support Office in Auckland, New Zealand, we recycle all our packaging, cardboard, paper, shrink wrap and plastic. Our factory in China has followed suit and they’re making a big effort to recycle waste from materials they work with. These are collected daily and where possible, they are utilised or reprocessed into other items.
What happens to the shoes that have been returned under your Love Me or Bring Me Back policy?
The shoes that aren’t 100% perfect but are still in good condition are given away to charities such as Women’s Refuge or Dress for Success. That way, more women get to enjoy the bliss of Ziera.
What materials does Ziera use?
Only the very best! We mainly use leather uppers and linings, natural rubber soling, PU soling and thermoplastic rubber.
Do the companies produce the goods in a fair and responsible manner?
It’s important to us that all Ziera’s leather products come from reputable companies. We buy from New Zealand, Italy, India, Pakistan and China.
How are the workers treated? What are their working conditions like?
Our Chinese partner is a very respected, responsible business that adheres to Chinese Government regulations. It is a fully catered facility with accommodation, meals and recreational facilities provided. As many of the employees are from out of the area, this becomes their ‘home away from home’ and the company does their best to ensure they’re well looked after. The tanneries we buy from in India and Pakistan are credited to international guidelines for health and welfare.
How are the workers paid (and are they paid fairly?)?
The workers in the Chinese factory are paid to Government regulations and the company offers regular overtime and bonus payments on agreed targets.
Who works for them?
Naturally, we only work with companies who employ staff who are above the legal working age.
